Baby Cribs
A baby crib is a bed that is designed for babies’ safety up to 3 years of age. They are specifically designed to keep the baby in the bed until the caregiver takes the baby out of it. Babies will often spend time playing in the crib not just sleeping in it.
The sides of baby cribs are supposed to be high enough and offer no footholds for the infant to be able to climb out of it. Baby cribs are also designed to prevent babies from trapping their heads and hands in the parts of the crib and hurting themselves or even dying. It has been discovered that there is a correlation between the firmness of the mattress and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The firmer the baby mattress the less likely an infant will suffer from SIDS.
There are many different types of cribs on the market. Some cribs like the convertible crib may cost more but could last all though childhood. Other cribs offer space-saving benefits and still others are just beautiful.
Convertible cribs are versatile and have many money saving options. These cribs grow as the child grows. A convertible crib can be converted into a toddler bed and then into a full size bed. Therefore, technically speaking, the child could use the bed until it grows up and leaves the home. Although, a person may not want people knowing they are 21 and still use the bed they had since they were born!
The round baby crib is one of the more popular cribs. It consists of no edges so it respectfully fits into most rooms you plan to make your “Baby Room”. It can be placed nicely into a corner or it can be placed directly in the middle of the room to highlight it as an important place for your baby. The main advantage a round baby crib offers is its shape. Its roundness allows a considerable amount of space to be saved. Round baby cribs have a large range of prices. They can be found for as low as $100 all the way up to$6,000.
A sleigh baby crib is designed like other cribs to keep the baby safe and secure except that the headboard and footboard resemble a sleigh. They are usually made of wood and are very heavy but they do come in metal also. They were first made around the 18th century and many people still like their nostalgic European design. In the modern sleigh cribs, the curves are not as exaggerated as in the older ones. They cost about the same amount as the round cribs.
Most baby cribs are designed around a standard crib mattress size. That makes it easy to shop around for sheets and other bedding. The exception is the round baby crib of course. The round baby crib has a round mattress and therefore needs special sheets. These sheets are not available everywhere.
A baby crib is called a cot in Britain. Cot or crib, round, convertible or sleigh, a baby crib needs to be safe as well as convenient and pleasing to look at.
